The "Not So Skki Inn" of 2014

The "Not So Skki Inn" Crew
With a couple of weeks to go before the event, Some tough decisions had to be made. With No or little snow on the ground, the location resort hadn't faced conditions like this since the 80's, is what I heard. They were considering not opening at all. Event planner and Trikke Academy's "Go To Girl" Ann Pirone had to think fast and had to take in account many different factors. I, for one, wouldn't want to be in her shoes. The Skki Inn of 2014 was not to be.

For everyone involved, the next couple of weeks were a roller coaster of a time. Weather forecasts called for a chance of snow that weekend but nothing promising. The word was going out and some were beginning to make other plans. Ann even offered a "Plan B" for us to still get together. But there were the dreaded "Fees" we would all incur if we altered from the plan.

Due to the circumstances, Some of us were already committed. Luckily for us, one of the rental properties was not offering a refund and a decision was made to use it, instead of just losing it. The "Not So Skki Inn" was on! Snow or no snow, We were going to have a great time!

The property was the smaller of two units reserved for the event. It was in a great location, near the back gate and closer to the Ski Resort. Not to mention, not having to drive through the maze of roads in that community. With three private rooms and a big bunk room, we had plenty of space to stretch out. Ann, you picked a really nice spot!

What happened in the following week was totally unexpected and we were graced with a huge blessing! We Got Snow!!! OMG! it was crazy! What went from 17" to 24" and then seeing a picture of a kayak in a pond on the base was, well, heart breaking. The resort needed at least 36" to open. The forecast now was showing a front coming through with a strong chance of snow. By the time for our arrival, the resort was open and reports read from 48" to 60".

We arrived in Redmond, Oregon in typical So Cal Fashion. In Shorts! We were greeted by Darrick Bruyn of Central Oregon Trikke. Thanks for all your hospitality, Bro! We made our way through Fred Meyers and picked up our supplies. The other half of our group was driving in from Portland. Traveling drama aside, we all made it safely. We were "home" for the next few days.

Our first day on the Skki was met with more snow! In fact, it snowed all day! Fresh powdery conditions with limited visibility. It was awesome! The following two days were just as awesome with partly cloudy skies, mild winds, and soft snow!

Not having the resources and structure of a true event, Yo
u can say our timeline was a little different but still enjoyable. After fixin' breakfast and getting ready, we weren't hitting the slopes at the first bell. And with the awesome conditions, there wasn't any desire to come down any sooner than needed. Getting in as many runs as you can ruled the day! With that in mind and not having vehicles available, Dinners were started later than usual.
Cheers!

All things considered, the "Not So Skki Inn" fared pretty well. Thanks to the attendees, Bruce Weston, Monica Green, Larry Martinez, Trikke Andy and his son, Drew, Irene and Sean Tice, and Gina Alo. Special Thanks to Ann Pirone and Darrick Bruyn! Wish everyone safe travels home. Until next we meet ... Carve the Day! Thug every Moment!

The 2014 "LSM" Photo Share - February

It's all about Composition! Composition! Composition!

Hi! Double Dub checking in ...
Thanks to the good folks at SouthBay Trikke (Andy Pliska, Irene, and Sean Tice) for sharing with the Trikke Carving Community with me, again. Yup! we're at it again! Each Month this season, we'll be selecting various goodies to share with you. You can reach out to SouthBayTrikke.com for our item of the month and ask about the LSM discount. The other way is to join the LSM Movement!
Share your picture of you, your Trikke, and "LSM" in your photo. (you can post it here in the comments or on the Global LSM Check-In's group) When you do this, I'll issue to you your number for the month! This number will match a number on a ping pong ball in the "Turbo Mixer". Hopefully, by the following weekend (time and date will be announced) We'll mix'em up and pick a winner!

If no winner is chosen, the prize will roll over to the next month.
Get creative! I can't wait to see what y'all come up with.

Post your February "LSM" here. (or join the Global LSM Check-In's group in Facebook and post there)

oops, forgot to mention the give-a-way. For February, we're giving away a SouthBay Cargo Net and water bottle!!!

Is It a contest ? It's Not a Contest!

Double Dub Checking in ...

I've been brainstorming and here's what I got (Thanks Bill Shakal from Indiana for planting the seed). Double Dub and The LSM Movement is teaming up with SouthBay Trikke, again! We're putting the "Turbo Mixer" into action Monthly! We're giving away CV (carving vehicle) goodies monthly. Trikke Andy and I were pitching ideas back and forth. Here's what we came up with.

What should you take a picture of? You and your Trikke CV WITH  "LSM" in it. Get creative! Make a sign, Spell it out using other carvers. etc... just as long as we can see it. (no photo shopping, or fancy frame work). If it's a group photo, tag everyone in it. They'll get in a monthly Give away. And Please, share your photo with some details about your trail or ride

Numbers will be issued monthly for participants. Your "assigned number of the month" will be randomly chosen. It will coincide with a Ping Pong Ball in the "Turbo Mixer". I'll share those numbers with you before the Ping Pong Ball drawn. Then turn the "Mixer" on!

Here's a catch! the Turbo Mixer has fifty numbered ping pong balls. If no one wins in the month, the prize rolls over to the next drawing.

What are you playing for?! SouthBay Trikke, Trikke Andy and I will choose a great accessory item for you and/or your CV! Items like Pull Cords, Pliska Mad-Locking Brake Levers, the New LSM T-shirt, Ergon GS5 grips, Trikke Sling Bag, and a SouthBay Trikke Overhaul/Tune-Up! And Other Surprises are possible to share and have fun! No Budget buster grand prize this time but you never know what Trikke Andy and I might have up our sleeves!

As a bonus, SouthBay Trikke will offer the same item on sale at a discount the month after. Just in case if you don't win, you'll still have a chance to purchase it and get a great deal.

We think it's a fun reason to step up and share your LSM Spirit. To help the Carving Community! And Share the Passion!

What do you think?! Are you ready to "Step Up"?    Who's In?

You'll need to get in our "Global LSM Check- In's" group page to post your "LSM" photo on Facebook or look for a Specially tagged blog
One entry per person/photo per month

Prizes are what they are and cannot be substituted
All entries must be posted by the following Thursday
