Contest?! ... Contest?! ... We don't need no stinkin' Contest!

Double "Double Dub"
Double Dub checking in ...

It's been a few weeks since the end of our season long Community Contest. I don't know about you but coming into this month's LSM, I'm not as jazzed.
"Double Dub Obnoxious High Glow Yellow's

Did I ruin the Spirit for the Carve? Do we need a contest to continue the LSM Movement?
Is our Passion for Carving great enough to keep the community growing?

Of course it is!!! We don't need no stinkin' contest. I believe the passion for the LSM Movement has been proven. Our continuing efforts to help us grow has taken root. Sharing an activity which helps our Physical and Mental conditioning is infectious. I know that's a bold statement to make. Think back when you stepped up. You were ready for it, a Challenge! A Change! A way to get some exercise, get in better conditioning, and feeling better!

Not to mention, all the fun we're having. We know there are more people out there carving that we may be unaware of, that's OK! I know of a few in my area that don't seem to care about joining others but can carve pretty good. The benefit is that they're being seen by others. If we carve in near by areas and make it a point to stop and answer questions, we might get more people to step up with us.
Signed and Assembled by Trikke Andy
Sounds familiar, right? What we're doing is working. I hope we all believe this! Sure, there are other things we, as a community, can do. I'm hoping those with the ideas will share with the rest of us.
Am I going to mention Trikke Tech? (I just did) I hope they just keep providing us with 3CV Carving Machines. I think I have already but I can never thank them enough. Thank you Gildo Beleski!, Ana D'Arace!, John Simpson! And Thank you to everyone at Trikke Tech that help make everything happen. I hope you all like what we've done to the T12 Roadster to make it a "Double Dub Special Edition" Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your Loved Ones!
So, what's going to happen in 2014? Well, for the LSM Movement, it's always been about the Carving Community! I'm sure we'll have some fun somehow. Until then, Keep Safe! Carve Deep!and Share Often!
Happy New Year! Thanks for a wonderful 2013

Just One More ...

Double Dub checking in

It started eight months ago. The LSM Community Photo Contest is about to come to an end. In less than a week, We'll be upon the Last Sunday of the Month, 11/24. One of two chances to "Step Up" and share the day of carving with the world. The Last Saturday of the Month is November 30, the last chance to snap a photo of your LSM and share it with us. The deadline for entries is December 4th, the following Wednesday.

It's been an amazing journey with the Carving Community. I couldn't be more thankful for every one's belief in sharing. That's basically all we're doing. Our smiles, photos, locations, joy, and passion for carving is simply being shared amongst friends. This little concept of having a regular community ride grew from a date, The Last Saturday of the Month. With your passion we call Trikke and your belief of sharing and community, we will continue to grow.

Thank you for joining the LSM Movement. Thank you for your participation with our contest. Best of luck to all our entries.

Thanks to my sponsors, Gildo Beleski, Ana D'Arace, and John Simpson of Trikke Tech, Ann Pirone and Fred Welch of Trikke Academy, and most of all, Trikke Andy, Irene and Sean Tice of SouthBay Trikke. Much Love

New Year! New Challenges!! New Goals on Fun!!!

Double Dub checking in
Here to invite the Carving Community to "Step Up" and accept a Challenge. Help us help you! Do you use a GPS app when Carving? Do you use a Garmin? Currently, there are many using the Endomondo App. I believe it's available for iPhones and other smart phones. In the program, it has a "Challenge" feature which polls our data. We're all checking in, recording our rides and this program adds it all up for us. It's pretty cool. we can click on personal profiles and share our performances. There are two challenges running right now. The "So Cal Carvers Total Trikke Miles" Challenge and the "Most miles Trikkeing in 2013" Challenge.
Whether if you carve daily, only on weekends, once per week, or during a Blue Moon, Join Us! This is all about setting some goals and sharing. It's not a competition! This is a measure of support, of your determination, and your wanting to share. Carving is about Fitness, Friends, and Fun! With the new year, We have set up a new challenge. I'm here to invite you to join in. The Challenge is the "2014 Carving Community Camaraderie". It begins on the 1st of January in 2014 and ends a year later in 2015 You'll need to sign up for the "Free" app and create a profile or choose a sign in option.
There is a challenge set up for Skkiiers as well.
Trikke SKKI Challenge 2013-2014 is set under "skiing, downhill".
Remember this is all just for FUN! For Newbies and enthusiast alike. Don't be discouraged to share your progress with the lean. This community is filled with good hearted folks willing to offer suggestions and meet up for training, you just need to share your desires for the carve. The miles matter only to what you set your goal on. This challenge is just a way for the community to cheer you on!
Have Fun. Please check-in and join us. and carve safely!

Last Call ... The Carving Season of 2013

my favorite shot
Double Dub checking in.
We're almost there. Eight months' of entries, can you believe it?! Yes, folks. We're almost there. It's been an interesting experience to say the least. I hope you had fun participating in the Global LSM Community Photo Contest. On display for y'all is each month's entries. I'll sneak in the last month of November in December, just to keep it all together.

March LSM 2013
I can't say thank you enough. To everyone who has shared the passion we call Trikke. To everyone who "Steps Up" each and every month to share in the LSM Movement. Thank You!!! I truly believe this is about you, each one of us out there looking to get healthy, get mobile, have some fun, lose some weight, get fit, and the best part, meet and make a few friends! Certified Trikke Trainer Debbie Bumgardner couldn't have said it better. This Carving Community is all about Fitness, Friends, and Fun! Thank you!
April LSM 2013
The Last Saturday/Sunday of the Month is a regularly scheduled ride for carvers. A day that was chosen to invite any and all Carvers and Trikkers to "Step Up" and ride. Whether if you carved alone or in a group, on this weekend, We carve together and alone no more. In spirit, in passion, and for the love of the lean, This was to show support for one another. To help you express and share why you choose to rokk and roll for your form of exercise. This is about community. This is about you!
                                                   May LSM 2013

Why count? This is hard to explain. Is this it? Is this all there is? How are these official numbers? It's not! It's about having some fun! It's about memories, meeting up, and making some noise about a crazy little machine. It just shows how many had the chance to share their weekend. What I wanted from this is to be able to share your passion with others. To let others know where you are and where other carvers were and if an invite were open to come visit. Inspired by a couple of pioneers of the sport, Trikke Travel was an idea. To be able to travel and have a trikke available. Even better, to travel and be able to meet up for a ride! To share, not only the passion for Carving, but the love of your town.

                                                     June LSM 2013

What's up next? It will be the Third year of the LSM Movement. Believe when I say this would not have happened if it weren't for a few things coming together at the right time. Thank you to Andy Pliska, Irene and Sean Tice, the Team at SouthBay Trikke and Randy Boyd, founder/Co-creator of the TrikkeWorld Magazine . Without their encouragement, we wouldn't have the movement. Thanks to our first seven. Without your trust and belief in an idea, we would not be here as well. Thanks to the love and support from you, you're an awesome community to be associated with and to be included in.
                                                 July LSM 2013

And How can I forget, Thank you to Gildo Beleski, Creator of the Carving Vehicles we all so much enjoy and share. Thank you for your passion and you're passion to share with us. I can only hope our futures are both, prosperous and bright, Carve on, Master G! Hope to see you around the next turn.

                                        August LSM 2013
                                       September LSM 2013

I don't know what's next. Hopefully, a little break from the action. Don't worry I'm not going anywhere. I think I just need to refocus and take care of me and my life for a bit. There are a few projects I'd like you to keep an eye on. One is from Elise Bennett and her Trikke Universe website. If you know of any IT folks willing to help out or donate some time, please reach out. The other project, which may be part of the Trikke Universe is a Carvers Locator Map. Your participation will be required again. Thank you carvers. Good luck next month!

Waving the White Flag ...

Day 27 Windy Marathon in the South Bay.
The third straight day of carving distance. Was trying to remember what the Trikke Endurance Master, Trikkenut, once told us. "It's all about finding a comfortable pace!" Not having a lot of recovery time from last night's twenty, my foot was still sore. Finding a pace and rhythm was harder to do than I thought. With the winds we were facing, fatigue and pain set in pretty quickly. But for us, it was twenty-six miles or bust.
This is a shot of Way's GPS. I had to add this to my reading of 21.02. My phone had run out out it's battery due to the amount of times I had to stop and rest my foot. 26.34 miles on the day. 953.35 miles for the So Cal Mileage Challenge.

Before the day started, I knew I wasn't going to meet my challenge of hitting a thousand miles in September. Even though it's an LSM (Last Saturday/Sunday of the Month) weekend, my days were already planned. Saturday is my friend's Birthday and we are headed to Long Beach for the "Old School Japanese Car Show"! On Sunday, It's Basketball League with my nephews. There wasn't going to be enough energy for me to carve up any of the 46.45 miles needed. The thought of carving all 46 miles on Monday is a little lofty for me to consider especially with my foot not being 100%.
Thanks for every one's support. Hope you Step Up and challenge yourself.

Day 26 Thug Therapy via LART

Got a late start today. It was windy all day and was hoping for the winds to die down, it didn't. Thought, with the time, had I taken the Southern route, I wouldn't turn back for another five to complete twenty. So I opted to Double up on the Northern route. It was a little scary but fun to carve this in the dark.

Day 25 I break 9

DAY 25, 15.82 miles 1:58:59 Hrs  906.83 Total Challenge Miles
Headwinds along the Freeway were heavy today. Didn't have time to complete twenty. Needed to get back for Dinner and Basketball later with my nephews.
Felt good today. Can't say much for my basketball game though.

The Challenge remains ...Five Days left!

At first, it was twenty miles per day for thirteen days. That quickly changed to two hundred sixty miles in thirty days. Currently at 891.01 miles, It's hard to think I'll cover a hundred and nine miles before the end of the month. Having carved only nine times this month, I'm surprised that I'm as close as I am.

I've got to thank the support I had to get me to get up and out to carve. Way-Chung Wong with whom I carved 25 plus miles on our "Carv-athon" route. Dan Marazon in his Whittier route where we did 16 miles. Since then I have only carve three times, a twenty on my birthday, an awesome buddy ride in the valley/Orange Line Route where we grabbed twenty-five, and a quick six from today.

Sidelined with an injury and some personal issues, I put myself in a position I haven't experienced before. I didn't want to "Step Up"! Let me expand on that, I didn't want to do anything! I pretty much locked myself into my room. I totally forgot what it was that I truly needed to breakout! I needed friends. I needed some fun! And I needed to "Step Up" and Carve!!! I needed my So Cal Carvers.

The "Buddy Ride" we had was a discovery ride for most of us. It is the local ride for two of our carvers,  Debbie Bumgardner and Ariel Jardines. Ten Carvers showed up and it was a super fun ride. It was awesome carving together again!

To be a hundred plus miles off with five days remaining in the month is shocking. When I consider how I was feeling a week ago. Still having some trouble but I'm a lot strong now. I'm amazed that I still have a shot at completing my challenge and reaching my goal. Hitting a thousand miles in my Endomondo Challenge, I believe will set me up for next year.

Will I complete my goal and hit a thousand miles? We'll find out in a few short days. I'm sure going to try. What I did do was rediscover my passion for the carve. I just need to remember this when my world gets shaky, I need to get rokkin'. This is truly my therapy of choice. If you're still learning, I hope you seek out a trainer or carver to help you. If you can't find one, I hope you keep at it. The payoff is too awesome to let your Trikke sit in the garage. As a friend put "get hooked"!

Journal of a Challenge Day 6 Ride 5

Whittier Trail with Dan Marazon : Night Thuggin'

Yo Double Dub cehcking in
Late Friday night ride had me driving to Whittier. Plan was to meet up with Dan at six, in Double time that meant 7:30. So having carve the route before, we figured we were cool to carve in the dark. With our CV's lit up, we went to take the night. I got to say it, It was a really fun ride! Carving it the dark was an amazing experience. I can't describe how it was, I think Dan said it like we were floating. Being guided by our lights and memory of the trail, we sailed through like a couple of fireflies playing in the meadow.
During the Daylight, I would recommend this route for any skill level but be prepared to carve on the street. There are also joggers and cyclist who use the trail. I believe Dan had a ride out here before. The trail is wide and smooth. Just use caution when crossing intersections.

Journal of a Challenge

Double Dub checking in
As I start this entry, I've finished my second dub on day two. Although my GPS failed yesterday it did get 14 miles out of it (I'll cry about the missing miles in the end). So, lets call it 34 miles. I started this challenge because I was disappointed with my miles count from August (120 miles). I was hoping to be closer to a thousand. Not only that, I dropped a position (or two) on a miles challenge we set up on endomondo as well. Motivated!!! Yes! Oh, why thirteen days? Yeah, It's my birthday. But after some thought, I was thinking that's a lot of pressure! If I fell short on a couple of rides, I'd have to make that upon other rides. I would've ended up with some 30 - 40 mile rides. That wasn't gonna happen. So, I gave myself the month (but I'm still going to try for 13).

Day 2: Ride 2 ~ The LA River Trail (from Riverside Dr. and San Fernando Rd to Riverside Dr. and Zoo Dr., 7.5 miles) Round trip 15 miles plus an extra loop from Fletcher Dr., 5 miles.
I started about 5:30PM from Fletcher Dr. and decided to head North first. I tracked this to 5 miles to the turnaround. For the first couple of miles, you can still see the beauty of this river. After that you're on the side of I5, yup! Interstate 5! It gets windy and Hot here. And the headwind you get when you come back, forget about it. Cars and Big Rigs, if they're not zooming by, they're giving off a lot of heat! Not to mention a few homeless camps and horses. Uh-huh! It's not THAT bad but thought you should be warned.
The route South is a little different. It cuts behind an industrial area and then into a neighborhood. The LA River, for the most part, is pretty nice! Occasionally, you might see a party of kayaks in the water. On the trail, you'll cross some families out for a stoll, some folks fishing, and up and down this trail, Bikes! To make the miles, I carved the Southern trail twice.
This and the little trip back to my car ~ 20.68 miles

Group Ride?! I don't do group rides ...

Hi Double Dub checking in.
I remembered when I caught the Passion I call Trikke. I suddenly wanted to be with others who enjoy carving as I do. Joining SouthBay Trikke as they help grow the Community has been an adventure to say the least.

This story comes with some reservation because it concerns a touchy subject. I assume Anxiety Disorders affect many people daily. I'd like to share some light on my anxiety. Lately, it's been on the rise, both in intensity and frequency. I know stress has a lot to do with it. My ability to cope has been shaken by Anxiety (panic) attacks. You may find this funny but I don't like crowds. At any given moment I can get irrational fears of being in a crowd. I know, Me? Right?!
I'll get shaky, difficulty breathing, sweaty, and ... well, we won't go there. I've learned different ways to try to handle and cope with these feelings. My anxiety is involved with other aspects in my life as well. This past LSM (Last Saturday of the Month ride) was no exception. As we gathered for an end of the ride Pot Luck affair, I was already shaky. Rather than sharing this experience with the group and expose them to a full blown panic attack, I made a quick exit.
This isn't how I am. I love our group rides. Here in Southern California, our group is so diverse and wonderful, we're amazing! I may not be as engaged as others but it's always a great time sharing the Passion. I've heard of folks using the CV's (Carving Vehicles) to rehab backs, shoulders, knees, and hips. There was mention with exploring adaptive recreation and rehabilitation and I think that's awesome! I have often called my workouts as therapy, it's true! My CV is all things cardio, strength building, weight loss, stress reliever, and socializer. Trikke CV's has helped me with my anxiety with crowds by focusing on sharing the Passion! Sure a person can get something similar by cycling, running, or whatever. It's nothing like our wondrous Carving Vehicles.
I'm sharing my story for various reasons. For one, to help myself. Being open and sharing enough to care. Two, in hopes that I might help others. No, there's no need to share what troubles you. but to know that a little carving workout does wonders. And sometimes with friends, it can be better. Three, To be kind! We may never know what a person is going through. It really doesn't matter whether we know or not. What does matter is we can be kind!
For those who have yet to experience a friendly group ride, I extend an open invitation to join us. The Camaraderie that's shared for the joy of carving is like no other. It's why I think the LSM Movement is so important. To believe in the passion, all the smiles and accomplishments that you've made can be shared. For those new to the sport, they'll be happily surprised with all they'll discover and will be sharing.
Bottom line of what I'm saying here is Get up, get out, and exercise! And no matter what you're going through, you don't have to be alone. As a friend from San Antonio says " Love somebody!"

Farewell TWM

Four years ago ... wow, it's strange to think and look back. What started four years ago ends with this LSM. The Labor Day Ride was the first ride of what was to become "TrikkeWorld Magazine". This Saturday, August 31, 2013, the story ends. Thanks for the ride!

What you want, what you need, what you're willing to do ...

From the time I got my first ah-ha moment, I've been hooked. When I got my first set of tires, I also met a team who I would become great friends with, SouthBay Trikke.  With them my passion I called Trikke grew. I had asked if they had group rides and if I could join them. It's been nonstop since then and it's been an awesome ride!
1st group ride in 2008

SouthBay Trikke then teamed up with TrikkeWorld Magazine and the community grew more. When they came up with the Last Saturday of the Month ride, my mind went buzzing! I know I had conversations with Andy  about a regular ride before then but this would set things off! I  started ... well, I didn't know what I had started. It had a momentum of it's own. The Passion we call Trikke was growing!
I began to hear stories. Legends in my mind. Edg Duveyoung climbing in the snow to try the SKKI. Mark Codispoti carving state to state. I believe his name is Jim Evans, who carved cross country not once but three times!!! I had heard of the First Coast Trikke's Fantasy week/ Century ride and of course, the Competition! I was trippin'! I didn't know this had gone on. It was inspiring to know that our CV's were capable to accomplish such feats. I then met Claudio Pagan, the "Trikkenut". A local carver, Larry Martinez, was telling us about this 100K ride in Ventura, California. I also got the chance to meet "LadyHawke" Lisa Hoolihan and ride in her 26 mile "Aliso Creek Hill Climb Challenge". These two rides only served to grow my own passion. To share this amazing vehicle with as many as I can. I apologize there are many more people I fail to name here. Claudio and Lisa helped to inspire me. These stories were the inspiration that with the CV's we could connect with others. There were more of us out there. And more importantly, more who have yet to discover the joys of carving!
I've met many people in the past five years. I'd like to believe that I've connected with many more by sharing what has become The LSM Movement. I will continue to do so. I have a lot of places I need to go carve.
Along the way, I've been asked why? Why do all of this? Are you a dealer? Are you a trainer? Why invest your time and efforts to Trikke? If you can go to my facebook page and look at my ride photos, you'll see it! And when you do, you will, too! Some may think it's corny. That's my reason though. I've given away a special Trikke T7. I with help from community sponsors (Trikke Tech, Trikke Academy, and SouthBay Trikke) are getting ready to award someone with a "Double Dub Special edition" Trikke T12. For me, just to share. A smile. And the Passion we call Trikke.
There are some who'll question. Some, I'm sure, who'll criticize. To that I say, If you had the conversations I've had being with and carving with Gildo, you would understand. Then to have "G" (yes, Gildo) come up and say "Thank you for believing", well, I'll do all I can. Thanks "G"! I do believe.
Thanks for sharing with us and giving us our exercise, our friendships, and for me at least, my therapy. It is as my friend Debbie Bumgardner coined it. It's all about Fitness, Friends, and Fun!

Brighter future ...

It would be premature for me to say anything. I am fortunate to be in a position where I sometimes receive pre-filtered communications. You know, stuff that would involve major crimes if I were to tell you. However, upon hearing this "news", I asked myself in what ways does this make things better?
We come across things like this all the time. There's a new stop sign at such-n-such intersection. There's a "new" Doctor at the hospital, he's been in practice for over 20 years. Trending foods and restaurants are serving healthier meals. It all sounds cool but how does it help?
Hopefully, in the coming weeks, this news will reveal itself. Those "in the know" are preparing for what's to come and all will be good in the universe.

As for me , I will continue to deal with the closing of two resources for our community ("Trikke Talk" local forum on Ridephoria and recently, TrikkeWorld Magazine). For the LSM Movement, they were good tools to have. With them gone, It gave reason for this "old dog" to learn a few new tricks. I'm looking into a community locator to list rides, riding groups, trainers, and regular carvers. Also, would love if someone in the community would care to take on this task.
The other is this here, My blogger site. A new home for LSM Recaps, Reports, and Reviews. This won't replace that which is lost. Hopefully, this will reach out to some. Personally, I'm hoping many.

Welcome to the LSM Movement

Hi I'm Double Dub. I'm here to share the LSM Movement. LSM stands for Last Saturday/Sunday of the Month. It's the name of a regularly held CV (carving vehicle) ride founded by SouthBay Trikke and TrikkeWorld Magazine in Southern California. Here in this arena, we'll discuss issues in the Trikke Carving Vehicle (CV) Community, the LSM Movement and reports about and from the rides. The Movement is a grassroots effort by Carvers to share our passion of Trikke and carving.
I hope you'll enjoy my ramblings. Feel free to comment and offer feedback. Thanks for visiting.
